Where is Derek?

Hi yall, I haven’t posted anything in 6 months. Yikes! So many things has happened since March. I went to the Philippines with Mina for a week, a whole slew of mishaps occured but in the end, we had a good time. Then for the summer, Mina and I went to Vietnam and had too many things happen that I would have to dedicate a couple of posts to that adventure. Recently, I have been working on the tokyokaleidoscope website. I am almost done, there are some minor things that need tweeks. Check out www.tokyokaleidoscope.com to see what I did. It’s still underconstruction but I will tell you when I am done. Also the business cards were done over and I can post those pictures. I will be coming back to NYC from Nov. 11 to Nov. 16 for my brother’s wedding reception. I look forward to seeing you guys when I get back. It’s been too long.Oh and I working really hard on word press theming lately. This could be my next move. Oh and I am up for my second visa renewal! The good news is that this year they are introducing a 5 year visa! Oh yeah!

My portfolio site has been looking dated lately, so I decided to up the image a bit. Since, I love WordPress (wp) so much, I am using it as a CMS (content management system) for my portolio site. I am learning about wp themeing and since I am a relative newbie, I decided to use the wp theme, “The UnStandard” by Derek Punsalan <— you have to love that name! ahah. I did little tweeks to the formatting but I intend to make the theme tailored to my sense of style. I do like that this theme breaks from the traditional magazine style layout and opts for a more visual one. A pictures says a thousand words and I would like to add that my work speaks for itself. I am working on adding audio to each portfolio piece, where each piece has a personality and talks about itself. I think its a great idea and you heard it first here. Hey yall, long time no speak. The start of this new year has been really good. I have renewed my efforts in learning Japanese and started designing again. Currently I am designing a logo for a voice over artist named Bill Lloyd and here is the logo that I am working on.

The brief for this project mentioned awesome so I gave, awesome. A bacon wrapped grenade! I think it says… I am loud, proud and so dayum good… You must admit, anything bacon wrapped is pretty dayum awesome. I will see what he says…

I have been networking and have met a bunch of cool people. Some are designers and some not but I have goals for this year and I will do my best to get them all done. Oh, I have picked up a new design skill and that is WordPress theme design. This blog uses WordPress but isnt exactly what I want for a blog so I plan on upgrading everything from UI to functionality.

Hope everyone is doing well. Just writing so people know that I am still breathing. In the books for spring, a trip to the Philippines! yeah!
